I love Sloppy Joes.  Sure, you can pull out a can of Manwich and make it the easy way, but if you want the best tasting Sloppy Joes, make them from scratch!  This is also great for the solo camper, as a full can of Manwich would make way too much.  This recipe is just enough for two sandwiches.  The perfect meal after a long day of hiking.

Ingredients

About 1/4 of a Small White Onion
About 1/4 of a Small Green Pepper
1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce
Yellow Mustard
1 Teaspoon Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Tomato Sauce
1/4 lb Ground Beef
1 Teaspoon Olive Oil
Garlic Powder
Shredded Cheddar
Hamburger Buns

Instructions

  1. Dice the onion and pepper. Set Aside
  2. Combine the soy sauce, Brown Sugar, and tomato Sauce. Add a squirt of the mustard. Set aside.
  3. Saute the Ground Beef with the Olive Oil until the beef is cooked, breaking it up in the process
  4. Add the Onion and Pepper to the beef, cook until the veggies are tender
  5. Sprinkle some Garlic Powder to taste
  6. Add the sauce, then simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes
  7. Serve it on to a couple Hamberger Buns, adding some Shredded Cheddar for added flavor
  8. Enjoy!

I based this on a recipe from Natasha’s Kitchen, where I reduced the amount of food, and changed some of the ingredients to items I’m more likely to have on hand when camping.  You can see the original recipe here: https://natashaskitchen.com/sloppy-joe-recipe/
